Abstract

This article discusses education as a tool to promote the principles of cooperativism through the School Cooperatives Program. The Program is developed in partnership with educational institutions that incorporate cooperative values into their educational proposal. Students act as protagonists, playing the role of researchers and investigators of knowledge. This article specifically analyzes school cooperatives in Rolante, a municipality located in the Paranhana Valley/RS, specifically studying the Cooperzimmer school cooperative, developed within the Hugo Zimmer Municipal Elementary School. The theoretical basis that supports the project is supported by the theory of Amartya Sen and authors who contextualize the cooperative movement. The methodology used was a literature review and ethnographic research, in which testimonies were collected. The results obtained indicate that school cooperatives enhance human and regional development to the extent that they place the students involved as autonomous subjects and protagonists of their own knowledge.
