Abstract

Poverty is a problem faced in all regions, mainly affecting poor and developing countries. Wealth is a variable related to poverty, as it shows the accumulation of income in a tiny fraction of society. Income inequality occurs due to disparities in income, with a high proportion of society receiving little, sometimes not enough for a good quality of life, and another tiny portion of the population concentrating income. The aim of this article is to carry out a spatial analysis of poverty and wealth in the state of Amazonas from the perspective of municipalities, micro-regions and meso-regions in 2020. The aim is to analyse which regions need greater government support to tackle poverty and where income is most concentrated. The method used is the Moran Index, which measures the spatial autocorrelation of socio-economic variables and can be used to create scatter plots and maps. The results show that income inequality is present in the state, especially in the municipalities of the Manaus micro-region.
