COMPETITIVITY AND REGIONAL ORIENTATION OF BRAZILIAN EXPORTS OF MEAT
Abstract
This study aims to verify the degree of competitiveness of Brazilian exports in the world trade of beef meat, chicken meat and pork meat, and to evaluate the sources of growth of Brazilian exports belonging to this complex. For this, export data from 2004 to 2017 were analyzed, using the following international trade indicators: Constant Market Share (CMS), to decompose export growth among the effects of growth of world trade, tariff composition, destination and competitiveness; and Regional Orientation Index (IOR). Based on the analysis, it can be seen that in general the effects, growth of world trade and destination helped to soften the fall in Brazilian exports of this complex in the analyzed periods. The exports of these products showed a loss of competitiveness in the world market. Although the IOR shows high regional orientation of Brazilian exports of beef meat, chicken meat and porkmeat, the index for both, beef meat and chicken meat exports presented a decrease over time, respectively, for Venezuela and for Argentina and Ukraine. Furthermore, in the analyzed period, Brazilian exports of beef meat, chicken meat and porkmeat had a large share of the world market.
