Abstract

This article presents the results of research into the social perception of the impact of science communication at the Federal University of Amapá (Unifap), carried out between 2007 and 2020, on regional development. The study seeks to answer how the dissemination of university scientific knowledge can impact regional development, taking Unifap’s scientific dissemination as its object. Bibliographical research, a survey and field research were used to collect the data. The initial hypotheses were: (a) Amapá society realises the importance of Unifap’s ST&I actions for development; however, it does not know (or knows little about) the research and extension activities; and (b) Unifap’s scientific dissemination has a low impact on the development of Amapá and the region of influence because this relationship is not clearly perceived by the social actors. The results showed that the hypotheses were partially validated.
