Abstract

The new technological paradigms inquire about the possibilities of development of peripheral countries and their urban-regional realities. In this setting, new debates arise around the knowledge organizations (universities, technology centers etc.) – and more generally, the potential and limitations of the innovation system in its various scales – to promote virtuous mechanisms based on the configuration of knowledge and learning networks. The proposed study adopts the case study methodology in order to analyze the path of scientific and technological complex of an intermediate city in Argentina. The analysis of two distinct periods allows identifying the influence of structural factors relating to peripheral contexts on the role of knowledge organizations in regional innovation dynamics.
