Abstract

This study maps and analyses the literature on Local Development (LD) with a view to identifying patterns, methodological approaches and theoretical contributions. Through a bibliometric and quantitative documentary analysis based on the Web of Science, the study examines the evolution of scientific production on LD from 2004 to 2023. Two methodological stages were used: an initial analysis without the use of software and a subsequent analysis with the aid of Vosviewer®. It was observed that research on LD has grown significantly in recent years, standing out for its interdisciplinarity, covering areas such as Economics, Environmental Sciences, and Development Studies. The results indicate a strong inclination of research towards environmental and economic issues, reflecting the importance of sustainable and integrated approaches. This study offers guidelines for researchers on the state of the art of scientific production in DL and suggests that future research should address identified gaps, such as the need for more robust methodological approaches and the integration of interdisciplinary perspectives.
