Abstract

Epistemology is knowledge dear to the sciences because it problematises, analyses and seeks to theorise about knowledge and the scientificity that is being forged. This article aims to analyse the discussion on epistemology that takes place in the Regional Development sub-area of Brazilian postgraduate studies. This sub-area comprises 19 stricto sensu postgraduate programmes that make up the Urban and Regional Planning/Demography area of CAPES. To this end, the programmes’ curricula were analysed, the disciplines linked to discussions involving the term epistemology were surveyed, and the existence of these efforts, syllabuses and bibliographical references were verified. The main results are that there has been little investment in the epistemological discussion of development, concentrated in just three programmes in the country. For future studies, it is suggested that stimuli for these debates be analysed in events, knowledge production in journals, as well as in theses and dissertations in the sub-area.
