Abstract

The object of this article is the study of environmental migration, its vectors, its typologies and its main contemporary elements. Explanatory, descriptive and exploratory methods were used, combined with documentary and bibliographic analysis. The aim is to show that environmental migration is delineated territorially and by jurisdictions, in terms of people or groups, who move due to the origin of the migration, the length of stay and the migrant’s destination. A normative survey of UN Security Council resolutions was carried out, covering the period from 2011 to 2019. The dimension of environmental security and sustainable peace, added to the dimension of environmental migrants, reveals the complexity of human rights violations in terms of environmental migration, suggesting the need for public participation in decision-making processes at the state level. The extent to which the environment is affected, and the vectors of environmental migration offer a multidimensional pathway of impacts, indicating their intrinsic connection. This shows that the state does not always mitigate disasters that affect the lives of environmental migrants.
