Abstract

The first book of Chico Buarque, Estorvo, is analyzed here in terms of its narratological structure, seeking to emphasize the peculiar use of a diegetic mechanism that suits the theme and the types of writing resources tht the author molds as a function of his filtering of the real. The distortion of the outside world, the fruit of the semi-marginal metropolitan life of the protagonist, who passes through various, different social layers, takes on material body in the form of a particular type of original narrative digression that we refer to as ‘flashforward’. This differs from the classical prolepses and from the cinemagraphic flashforward. The resource that Chico Barque uses is characterized by being integrated into several levels within the narration, giving it an active role in the change of events. Key Words: Narratology; Real; Novel; Chico Buarque.
