The competition seen between institutions of higher education leads them to find ways to keep up in this competitive environment. Institutions are increasingly more entrepreneurial, introducing improvements in the services they render. They are pro-active in their strategic actions with everything geared towards sustaining in the market, increasingly more selective and demanding. Today, achieving excellence in teaching is one of the great objectives of institutions of higher learning, and the target public is a factor in competitiveness. The objective of this article was to analyze the adherence of universities and technical schools to systems of quality management, which make them stronger in the face of competition and which, among other factors, constitute an indispensable tool to the processes of evaluation and accreditation. It was concluded that the system of quality management allows the University to more efficiently manage social expenses, orient students towards better job opportunities an develop teaching that is compatible with high tech society.
