Abstract

Facing the process of harmonization of international accounting standards, we tried to identify what is the demand of the job market in the city of São Paulo for professionals specialized in International Accounting, and what are the requirements of technical knowledge, skills and competences required. By means of documentary research of job offers, looking for professionals with expertise in International Accounting, it was identified that the demand for professionals with expertise in North American accounting standards (GAAP), in 2007, was greater than the demand for expertise in international accounting standards (IFRS). But in 2008, this scene changed since the job market started to consider the future demand for professionals with expertise in international accounting standards (IFRS). With respect to technical knowledge, skills and competences required by the job market, we found that these are aligned with the recommendations of the international bodies. This alignment requires that the post-secondary education institutions pay attention to these requirements of the job market, which are valued for the accounting professional, when planning the curriculum for an Accounting course.
