PUBLICAÇÃO DE PATENTE E CUSTO DE CAPITAL: Uma análise das companhias negociadas na B3

Resumo

O presente estudo tem como objetivo verificar a relação entre a divulgação da inovação e o custo de capital implícito das companhias de capital aberto negociadas na B3. Para tanto, a divulgação da inovação é analisada pela perspectiva da publicação das patentes, e se busca verificar a relação com o custo de capital implícito, mediada pela assimetria de informação. Para tanto, o estudo conta com uma amostra composta por 91 companhias negociadas na B3 no período de 2014 a 2019. Os dados foram analisados trimestralmente por meio de regressão em painel. O custo de capital foi considerado a variável dependente do modelo, mensurado pelo modelo de Easton (2004); a assimetria de informação se constituiu a variável mediadora, mensurada pelas proxies: bid-ask spread, volatilidade, iliquidez em bolsa e probabilidade de negociação informada; a publicação de patentes no período refere-se a variável independente. Os resultados indicaram que a publicação de patentes mantém uma relação negativa com o custo de capital implícito, que é mediada pela volatilidade do ativo. Assim, verifica-se que a publicação de patentes pode ser um instrumento efetivo para redução das assimetrias informacionais, permitindo que os investidores tenham acesso a informações relevantes sobre as inovações e que reavaliem suas expectativas quanto ao valor da firma.
